Junbesi Khola Hydropower Project (5.2 MW)

Solududhkunda Municipality Ward : 2 Solukhumbu

The Junbesi Khola Hydropower Project (JKHP) is a 5.2 MW run-of-river (RoR) hydropower project located in Solududhkunda Municipality, Solukhumbu District, in the Koshi Province of Nepal. Situated between longitudes 86º32’40”E to 86º34’29”E and latitudes 27º33’15”N to 27º35’08”N, the project harnesses the flow of Junbesi Khola, with additional flow from Menjum Khola during the dry period. The project area lies in the Lesser Himalaya Zone at elevations ranging from 2655 m amsl at the headworks to 2433.98 m amsl at the powerhouse.

The project includes a diversion weir, intake system, gravel trap, settling basin, headrace pipe, surge pipe, penstock pipe, powerhouse, and tailrace culvert. The designed discharge is 2.99 m³/s, and the gross head is 221.02 m. The powerhouse, located in Najing village, houses two horizontal axis Pelton turbines, and the generated power is delivered to the national grid after passing through the tailrace culvert.
